Description: Common name: Japanese Spindle. Evergreen shrub with large leaves, green in the middle with creamy margins. Some leaves will have grey green blotches where the two colours overlap

Uses: Topiary Standards give structure to the garden

Climate/Position: Good in exposed positions, also coastal locations, as it can tolerate salt spray

Height/Spread: Trim to keep the specimen in shape

Soil Requirements: Topiary can be grown in pots or containers

Pruning: Trim annually with topiary shears or hedge-cutters in early or late summer to keep specimen in shape. Suckers and unwanted branches can also be removed from the stem

Special Requirements: Topiary can suffer from Pests & Diseases. Look out for any tell-tale signs such as damaged leaves, adult moths, caterpillars, sooty mould etc., and treat appropriately. Harmful if eaten
