Description:Common name: Evergreen Magnolia 'Gallisonniensis'. A conical shaped evergreen shrub / tree with very fragrant, cupped-shaped creamy-white flowers in summer. The leaves have matt brown undersides

Climate/Position: Full sun, sheltered from cold winds

Height/Spread: Up to 10 metres, spread 5 metres

Soil Requirements: Well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soils. Avoid shallow soils over chalk. Mulch each year

Pruning: No pruning required

Special Requirements: Can lose some leaves in very cold winters

Additional Interest: Named after Michel Rolland Barrin, Comte de la Galissonière who was in America in the early 18th century and collected seeds, and plants which he sent to Versailles
