Description: A medium sized evergreen shrub known best for its striking red juvenile shoots in the spring making it particularly eye catching. Large leathery glossy leaves on a slightly loose habit
Uses: Good for mass planting or can be grown as a hedge. Popular as an easy to grow landscaping plant
Climate/Position: Full sun or partial shade. Some shelter advisable to avoid young shoots being scorched by late frost
Height/Spread: Will grow up to 4 metres x 3 metres though can be kept to 3 metres
Soil Requirements: Any soil but must be well drained
Pruning: Pruning may be done to improve shape or to rejuvenate older plants. Annual pruning in spring if grown as a hedge - the young red shoots will then develop a little later than if unpruned
Special Requirements: Avoid exposed Easterly winds to avoid damage to young growth in spring
