DIOSPYROS kaki 'Vaniglia'

Description: Common name: Persimmon 'Vaniglia'. Has the largest fruit of all the Persimmon varieties. Round fruits, yellow orange in colour that ripen in the autumn. The fruit gets sweeter after picking. The leaves are dark green, shiny, and turn orangey red in autumn. A medium sized tree of rounded habit, with bark that has interesting texture

Uses: Culinary, also the trees with the unpicked fruit in winter is very decorative

Climate/Position: Plant in a warm sheltered spot

Height/Spread: Can reach up to 8 metres in southern Europe, but is slow growing

Soil Requirements: Will grow in most soils, avoid wet and poorly drained sites

Pruning: Little or no pruning is required. A medium sized tree of rounded habit, with bark that has interesting texture

Special Requirements: Self fertile

Additional Interest: The fruits are rich in Vitamin C, and twice as much fibre as apples
