HYDRANGEA quercifolia 'Snow Queen'

Description: Common name: Oak Leaved Hydrangea. A hydrangea with a number of strong characteristics. The bright green leaves are shaped like giant oak leaves and they turn fabulous rich tones of pink plum and purple in autumn. The flowers are large white cones produced on the ends of the shoots in late summer, these fade to pale pink and give autumn interest before turning brown for winter

Uses: Can be grown in a woodland setting or by a stream edge. However, good in any partially shaded border providing the soil is moisture retentive

Climate/Position: Full shade or partial shade

Height/Spread: 2 metres x 2 metres

Soil Requirements: Moist well drained soil, humus rich with added compost is preferable as the plants do not like to dry out

Pruning: Cut off last year?s flower heads to a strong pair of buds in spring after the frosts. Remove unwanted or thin shoots cutting to the base of the plant

Special Requirements: Application of well-rotted manure or compost before planting is highly recommended as well as an annual mulch in spring to help retain moisture
