Description: Common name: Prunus armeniaca 'Rouge de Roussillon' (APRICOT). An Apricot variety from France, the large pink flowers are followed by edible orange-yellow fruits in mid-July to August
Uses: As a dessert Apricot, but can also be used in cooking
Climate/Position: Best in full sun in a sheltered position, the flowers are not frost hardy
Height/Spread: Vigorous grower, can grow to 6 metres high
Soil Requirements: Grow in good garden soil, avoid cold wet situations
Pruning: After harvesting do a light summer prune
Special Requirements: May be grown as a fan trained tree, for the extra warmth of the wall
Additional Interest: Bred in the Roussillon region of France in 1830, now PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) certified
