Description: Common name: WISTERIA sinensis 'Prolific'. Beautiful climbing plant. Racemes of scented lilac flowers, 25-30cm long, violet blue in colour

Uses: Grow over a pergola, or a sturdy trellis, also wires against a house wall

Climate/Position: Thrives in full sun, or partial shade

Height/Spread: Will grow as large as the support provided, 6 metres high, and 3 metres wide

Soil Requirements: Moist but well drained, fertile soil

Pruning: Regular pruning is essential. Twice a year, once after flowering, and again in mid-winter

Special Requirements: Keep away from house gutters, roof tiles, and incoming services. Often flowers from a young age

Additional Interest: Twines anti-clockwise. The seed pods look like beans, but are harmful if eaten
